Agrivoltaics research abroad

Posted

MINNESOTA - Worldwide, agrivoltaic systems are investigated for their sustainability in offering energy and agriculture production from the same land footprint. Varying climates, agriculture markets and energy demand create unique contexts for agrivoltaic systems and their success.

The University of Minnesota Extension will host a webinar exploring agrivoltaic systems from two different hemispheres to detail these varying circumstances on October 2nd, 12pm CT.

The session features research experts from Brazil and France:

Tropical Agrivoltaics & Dairy Cattle: Dr. Matheus Deniz and Dr. Karolini Tenffen De-Sousa will present their research on integrating solar systems with dairy cattle under Brazil's tropical conditions. They will share the effects of different agrivoltaic configurations on the thermal environment and animal behavior. In addition, they will describe public perceptions and opinions regarding agrivoltaics and its application in livestock systems in Brazil.

Crop Tradeoffs & Solar Yields: Dr. Christian Dupraz will share key insights from his extensive studies on balancing crop cultivation and solar energy production in France. Dupraz is a key leader and pioneer in agrivoltaics research, being the first to study and publish data on the land use efficiency of these systems.

Lessons learned from these global systems can be applied to various U.S. locations and agriculture industries.

This free webinar is designed for farmers, solar developers, landowners, government officials, academics and agricultural professionals interested in dual-use land management. Whether you are a farmer looking to diversify income or a developer aiming to integrate agricultural production, this session will offer practical, evidence-based insights.

Pre-registration is required to access the zoom link. Free to attend. Date: October 2nd, 12 pm CT
