Irmgard “Irmy” Madsen

Irmgard “Irmy” Madsen, 82, of Claremont, died Saturday, September 28, 2024, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born July 24, 1942, in Poland to Emil and Hilda (Nebowski) Schieffelbein. Irmy grew up in Europe until she was nine years old when they moved to the United States. She graduated from Chatfield High School before attending Rochester Community College. Irmgard met Richard Madsen and on October 13, 1962, they were united in marriage in Dodge Center. They were married for 61 years and blessed with four children.

Irmgard loved to crochet, macramé, go to garage sales, ride around town on her golfcart, and read books with a coffee in her hand. She would bake with her grandchildren, have coffee with her girlfriends, and help out with church events and with the American Legion Auxiliary. Irmy was a very happy, jolly, positive person, and never let pain get in her way. She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by her husband Richard Madsen of Claremont; daughters, Tracy Madsen-Kettner of Dodge Center, and Bonita Gianforti of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Madsen, Jake Gianforti, Natasha King, and Dakota Hester; great grandchild Tenley Madsen; sister, Siegrun Mills, and brother Erwin Schieffelbein.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hilda Schieffelbein; sons, Bryan Madsen and Blake Madsen; and sister Erika Kohlmyer.

Visitation was at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service starting at 2:00PM. Kaye Fate officiated. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery in Claremont. Memorials are preferred to any Colon Cancer or Breast Cancer Foundation of your choice.
