Marilyn Kay Skov, 82, of Hayfield, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her smile, her laughter, and her love of family and friends.
Marilyn was born Marilyn Kay Tiegen on July 14, 1944, in Kasson, MN, to Glenn and Alice (Erickson) Tiegen. She grew up in Oslo, MN, with her brothers, Dale and Bruce Tiegen. She spent her childhood around the Oslo store, listening to Glenn's stories and enjoying the familiar smell of lutefisk. Following high school, she completed a year of post-secondary education. Marilyn met Russ Skov while living in Rochester, MN. After they married, they moved to Oslo, where they made their home and built a life together. They shared 60 years of marriage, raising a family, working, traveling, and making memories along the way. After retirement, they spent much of their summers at Leech Lake, traveled together, and were rarely apart. In September 2026, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. They also marked the occasion in their own way, enjoying a celebratory lobster dinner at Red Lobster. Many will remember Marilyn from the decades she spent at the front desk of KM Telecom in Kasson, greeting customers, laughing at their jokes, and, as many might recall, always being a few minutes late for work. Marilyn loved tending to her flower gardens, morning coffee gatherings with friends, time at church, and being up at the lake. She was kind, generous, and thoughtful, and had a way of making people feel welcome. Her children will fondly remember her signature sloppy joes, chili, and Special K bars, and the fact that there were always cookies, bars, or candy waiting for her grandchildren. Marilyn leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Russ; her children, Brock (Melissa) Skov, Kyle Skov, and Kalli (Dustin) Flatt; and her six grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew, Adisen, and Katelyn Skov, and Graeden and Anna Flatt. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce (Janet) Tiegen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Alice Tiegen; her brother, Dale Tiegen; her sister-in-law, Joanne Tiegen; her parents-in-law, Harold and Erna Skov; her niece, Brenda Miller; and her nephew, Jason Tiegen.
