Three Candidates are Running for Re-election on the Triton School Board

Posted

Jim Jensen has served on the Triton School Board for 9 years the first time he was on and currently I have served for 8 years.

Jim states he is part of the Triton School Board, and the Board makes decisions together. “I served as Chairman of the Board for 2 years and I am currently the Treasurer of the Board. I would like to see the State of Mn increase the funding to education, so the school districts do not have to go to the voters for extra operating levies. I believe most people in the communities of West Concord, Claremont and Dodge Center support the Triton School district. The Triton communities have a strong mixture of farming, business, industry and people that commute to jobs outside of the communities. Having such a diverse mixture helps to make the Triton communities strong.”

Jim would like to see the school enrollment increase and the state funding increase, so we do not have to continually make cuts in the budget every year.

Jim grew up in the Claremont area and graduated from Claremont High School. He is married and have lived in Dodge Center for over 30 years. They have 5 children that have graduated from Triton. He has been involved with the school district by volunteering for school trips, Wolf Ridge trip, 6th Grade Whitewater trip for 31 years, Elementary carnival, Post Prom and many other things. Jim taught the D.A.R.E. program to the Fifth grade and also taught the Junior High D.A.R.E. program. He was the School Resource Officer for Triton for 5 years. While the SRO, he helped with the placement and installation of security cameras in and around the school.

He was also a member of the Dodge Center Lions and volunteered on many committees for the Lions.

Rebecca Knutson has been on the Triton School Board for 8 years (2 terms), 3 years of which she was the board chair and is currently the vice-chair.

Her accomplishments have been to work together with the administration to help make Triton a school to be proud of for a quality education and provide a wide choice of extracurricular activities for the students. “It’s the team work of everyone in the Triton school district that makes it a great place!”

In her tenure she would love to see the student population grow at Triton schools.

“I believe the strengths of our community are our schools with caring staff members, great people in the community, and thriving businesses.”

Rebecca has been a licensed Family Child Care Provider for 29 years. She maintains the website for the Dodge County Licensed Child Care Association. Her husband is Steve, and they have four adult children, all are Triton graduates. Two of their children are married, andtheyI have two young grandchildren who are future Triton Cobras.

Scott Curran is also running but did not respond to our request for an interview.
